Urban Operations
Die "International Urban Operations Conference" der SGW findet 2012 zum Thema "Solving complex Challenges in Urban Terrain" in Berlin statt.
Tagungsort ist das MARITIM proArte Hotel in Berlin.
Background
Urbanization is rapidly growing in the world, this is especially evident in developing countries. There is a tendency, that this massive grow results in a decline of stability in those large urban areas. This may eventually be used by terrorists or political adversaries to gain control over the country.
If the United Nations decide, a military intervention to reconstitute stability may result.
Military operations in such urban areas are most probably conducted as full spectrum multinational operations. This includes offensive, defensive and stability operations which have to be executed in a comprehensive approach.
The urban area is a topographical complex where man-made construction and/or high population density is the dominant feature (see Urban Operations, FM3-06). The terrain and infrastructure with their different sized buildings, streets, passages, waterways and underground areas, the population and potential or real opponents pose specific challenges in such a complex environment.
The task is to find the right means for reconnaissance, command and control, communication, active and passive protection as well as for offensive systems and weapon effectiveness to ensure a successful operation.
The (protective) clothing of the soldier is of the same importance, as the effectiveness of the accompanying combat and command vehicles and the personal weapons systems, such as weapon stations, small arms, high calibre rifles and their effective ammunition. Past crises have shown the capability gaps in this areas that need to be closed.
This international congress will give you the opportunity to discuss requirements for urban operations and solutions for equipment with military and industrial experts.
